Davos is situated on 1560 m and therefore the hightest city in Europe and it is famous for its unique offer of sport, leisure and culture facilities. Davos got famous due to its special climate which is known for more than 150 years now. In the middle of the 19th century the first guest house was opened and in 1924, the German author Thomas Mann published his novel "The Magic Mountain" that made Davos known worldwide. Numerous writers and painters settled down there. Davos developed the moderns winter sport, e. g. by crafting the "Davos` sleigh" in the 19th century. In the 1980s, the Freestyle scene was founded in Davos. Back then, Jakobshorn was the only mountain where snowboarders were allowed to use the ski lifts.
Excellent infrastructure for summer and winter in the heart of wonderful mountains are the best conditions for business meetings (such as the World Economic Summit), international sport- and culture events, famous museums and festivals. In winter there are countless ski slopes of all levels and a diverse nightlife offer for aprés ski, cinemas and restaurants. Up to something special? Then take the Schatzalpbahn up to the "Magic Mountain" and go back down to Davos on the 2,5 km long toboggan run. Snowboarders are in heaven at the Jakobshorn.
In summer, life is more quiet and relaxed but nevertheless there are a lot of things to do - hiking, walking or swimming in the lake Davos.
