Châtel is situated very close to the border of France and Switzerland. Despite of its growth, the old Savoyan village has preserved the regional style; there are no high-rise buildings and most of the guests stay in of the numerous chalets.
The mountain village, between Lake Geneva and Mont Blanc, is located in the fantastic ski area of Portes du Soleil (207 ski lifts and 650 kilometres of ski pist). It has kept its original character but nevertheless has a first-class infrastructure. This blend of tradition and modernity makes the entertainment for tourists - whether old or young - a colorful mix of sports, tradition and offers for night (bars, pubs, bowling ...)
Châtel is also an important center for cross-country skiing. Along the Dranse, seven trails lead through the snowy landscape. There are also eight marked Nordic routes that can be discovered on a snowshoe hike or as a winter walk. Four lifts can also be used by pedestrians. Ice rink and curling rink on the Lac de Vonnes. Spectacular flying fox route Fantasticable (zip line) 1.2 km long across the valley, starting at the Rochassons lift.
There are several ski schools in Châtel, you can find English speaking instructors at BASS British Alpine Ski & Snowboard School Châtel as well as at ESI Pro Skiing Châtel.
The thermal baths of the Bains du Val-d'Illiez in Valais are 15 km away, Lake Geneva around 35 km. Distance to the spa town of Evian approx. 38 km; there is also the possibility to take the ferry to Lausanne.

Summer activities are various. In addition to numerous hiking trails, there are mountain bike trails and a bike park (drop zone and pump track), as well as water sports possibilities on Lac de Vonnes or relaxed fishing on Lac de la Mouille. Of course, the Center Aquatique is also open in summer. You can explore the valley at dizzy heights on the "Fantasticable" zip line in the hamlet of Plaine-Dranse (Rochassons lift).
