3 Vallées | Savoie Mont Blanc | France
Founded in 1972 and surrounded by seven 3,000-meter peaks and six glaciers Val Thorens, at 2,300 m, is Europe's highest-located ski resort and one of the most popular destinations with demanding skiers from all over the world. Here you practically stay directly on the piste and enjoy a breathtaking view over the French, Italian and Swiss Alps. Val Thorens offers an enormous selection of downhill pistes at all levels of difficulty, countless possibilities for deep powder snow and freeride skiing, and, not least, its 2007-opened snowpark is considered a Mecca for snowboarders. Thanks to the glacier "Cime de Caron" at 3,200 m, this ski area, which ranges from 1,800 m to 3,230 m, is virtually snow-reliable from November to May. Val Thorens is famous not only for its extraordinary skiing possibilities but also for top-class après-ski with numerous shops, restaurants, bars, pubs and discotheques. In addition, it also offers a modern sports centre with an indoor swimming pool, sauna, whirlpool, steam bath and a large multifunctional sports gym for about 20 sports (among them tennis, squash and table tennis). A great variety of leisure activities, such as concerts and guided tours of the Belleville Valley, complete the offering. Val Thorens is car-free (except for arrival and departure), with parking at fee-based parking or in a garage. The village offers a local shuttle free of charge.
